The Tergar Meditation Community, founded by the revered meditation teacher and master of the Karma Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, has announced that it will host a free webinar on 1 February in which the renowned Chinese actor and martial artist Jet Li will share his experiences with meditation and talk on the topic “My Meditation Journey with Jet Li: Finding the Ultimate Balance of Mind And Body.”

“During this intimate and insightful 60-minute conversation, Jet Li will share how his meditation journey led to greater balance and inner strength, and a more mindful and meaningful life,” Tergar International said in an announcement shared with BDG. “My Meditation Journey is a light-hearted discussion with a serious message intended to empower, inspire curiosity, and help develop self-confidence and joy amid life’s challenges. Acclaimed martial artist, actor, and philanthropist Jet Li shares his journey toward a life of greater peace and well-being.”

Tergar International is a non-profit organization founded by Mingyur Rinpoche with the intention of making the ancient practice of meditation accessible to the modern world. With a global community of meditators and an international network of centers and groups, Tergar is dedicated to helping people of all backgrounds discover the joy and benefits of meditation.

“Jet Li, renowned martial artist, actor, and philanthropist, embodies the harmony of mind and body,” Tergar International explained. “From childhood, he excelled in martial arts, achieving national fame in China. His transition to film brought international stardom, with iconic roles in Lethal Weapon 4, Romeo Must Die, and Hero, showcasing his physical prowess and philosophical depth. However, the demanding world of action cinema took a toll. Injuries and health challenges forced Li to seek a deeper form of strength, and he eventually turned to meditation and Buddhism. He now advocates for this holistic approach, emphasizing the unity of mind and body.”

The webinar program includes an interview with Jet Li followed by an open Q&A for participants to ask questions. “My Meditation Journey with Jet Li: Finding the Ultimate Balance of Mind And Body” will be live-streamed at the following times:

Born in Beijing in 1963, Li began studying martial arts at the age of eight, winning his first national championship after three years of training. In addition to his prolific acting career, Li founded the One Foundation after surviving the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. His intention was to nurture a culture of philanthropy in China and to introduce a new model of giving to the world by building community and finding ways for people to give micro-donations or to give back with time, building toward the idea of one global human family.

Li has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism since 1997, Jet, studying under masters including Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Lho Kunzang Rinpoche, and Khenpo Tsultrim Lodro.

Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, the founder of the Tergar Meditation Community, which has centers and practice groups across the world, is a renowned teacher and best-selling author whose books include: The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret & Science of Happiness (2007); Joyful Wisdom: Embracing Change and Finding Freedom (2009); and Turning Confusion into Clarity: A Guide to the Foundation Practices of Tibetan Buddhism (2014).

Born in 1975 in the Himalayan border region between Tibet and Nepal, Mingyur Rinpoche received extensive training in Tibetan Buddhist meditative and philosophical traditions from his father, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche (1920–96), considered one of the greatest modern Dzogchen masters, and subsequently at Sherab Ling Monastery in northern India. After just two years, at the age of 13, Mingyur Rinpoche entered a three-year meditation retreat and then completed a second immediately afterward, serving as retreat master. At 23, Rinpoche received full monastic ordination.

Mingyur Rinpoche famously undertook a four-year solitary wandering retreat through the Himalaya from 2011–15. In recounting how he came to terms with the realities of his ambition to practice in the manner of a wandering yogi, Rinpoche revealed that he confronted many personal and spiritual challenges—including, at one point, his own mortality. Rinpoche has described the years he spent wandering in the Himalaya as “one of the best periods of my life.”*
