Online Dharma: Tergar Announces Live Talk on Buddhist Psychology with Thupten Jinpa

The Tergar Meditation Community, founded by the revered meditation teacher and master of the Karma Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, has announced that it will host a free webinar on 15 February with the renowned scholar of Tibetan Buddhism and translator for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Thupten Jinpa. The live-streamed talk, titled “Breaking Free from Unhealthy Patterns,” will focus on insights from the Abhidharma texts that can be used to improve our day-to-day lives.

“Join renowned scholar and translator Thupten Jinpa as he unveils the practical wisdom of Abhidharma,” Tergar shared with BDG. “In this free webinar, Thupten Jinpa will discuss Buddhist psychology’s core principles, demonstrating how they can be applied in daily life to loosen the grip of unhealthy patterns.”

Tergar International is a non-profit organization founded by Mingyur Rinpoche with the intention of making the ancient practice of meditation accessible to the modern world. With a global community of meditators and an international network of centers and groups, Tergar is dedicated to helping people of all backgrounds discover the joy and benefits of meditation.

The webinar program with Thupten Jinpa will cover Buddhist psychology’s profound perspective on understanding the mind, how this perspective can help people to break unhealthy habits, and how these practices can lead to improved mental clarity and well-being.

“This ancient Buddhist psychology offers profound insights into the workings of our minds and emotions, empowering us to break free from unhealthy habits and cultivate lasting well-being,” Tergar emphasized. “Discover practical tools to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and peace, creating a path toward a more fulfilling and joyful life.” 

The webinar, which includes a conversation with Thupten Jinpa followed by a Q&A session, is free and open to all. It will be live-streamed at the following times:

Born in Tibet in 1958, Thupten Jinpa is a former monk, who received a Geshe Lharam degree from Ganden Monastic University in southern India. He also holds a BA in philosophy and a PhD in religious studies, both from Cambridge University, 

As the principal English translator to His Holiness the Dalai Lama since 1985, Jinpa has translated and collaborated on numerous books by the Dalai Lama, including Ethics for the New Millennium and The Art of Happiness, as well as Beyond Religion: Ethics for a Whole World.

Jinpa’s own writings include A Fearless Heart: How the Courage to be Compassionate Can Transform Our Lives as well as translations of major Tibetan works.

Jinpa also serves as an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Religious Studies at McGill University, Montreal, and is the founder and president of the Institute of Tibetan Classics. He is the founder and chairman of the Compassion Institute, and has been a core member of the Mind and Life Institute and its chairman since January 2012.
