The Facebook page of the revered Tibetan lama Karma Tanpai Gyaltshen posted an announcement on Monday of his passing on 28 November from the Mahamudra Meditation Center in Hungary. No other details were given in the notice.

We announce that our beloved Master Guru Karma Tanpai Gyaltshen passed into Parinirvana in the afternoon of the 28th of November 2020.
The traditional ceremonies for 49 days are performed by the Lamas, monks and nuns of Royal White Monastery, Master’s main seat, as well as other Monasteries of Kagyu and Nyingma lineage.
We, the Sangha of Mahamudra Meditation Center, are grateful for all the love and support we have been receiving from everyone. We kindly ask you to join our prayers following the teachings and guidance that we were given by our Master with his universal compassion and pure view.

We main teachers Acharya Lama Kelzang and Acharya Lama Sönam and Kamalashila team are saddened to hear the news of the passing away of Master Karma Tanpai Gyaltshen Rinpoche. We are sending our prayers to his students, relatives and all those who connected to him.
Karma Tanpai Gyaltshen Rinpoche was born in Tibet, and at the age of six accompanied his parents to Nepal, where he received empowerments and teachings from His Excellency the First Drubsing Rinpoche and other teachers. In 1969, at a young age, Karma Tanpai Gyaltshen Rinpoche joined Sanskrit University in Varanasi, India, where he studied Buddhist, Hindu, and other religious philosophies and teachings for 10 years.
After graduating, Rinpoche undertook a traditional three-year, three-month meditation retreat and an additional one-year retreat as one of 16 students under the guidance of His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and His Eminence Bokar Rinpoche in the retreat center above Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim, India. From 1984, Karma Tanpai Gyaltshen Rinpoche traveled widely to give teachings and in 1990 founded the Royal White Monastery and Institute for Religious Studies in Kathmandu, Nepal, providing refuge and education to hundreds of monks, nuns, and lay students from around the world.
